How to Survive a Bad Fantasy Football Draft

    • 1). Begin by immediately checking free agency. This is something that every good fantasy football owner should do at the end of the draft. You may find some gems or players that were overlooked during the draft. If nothing else, you should find a player or two to replace those “regrettable” picks you made during the draft.

    • 2). Examine the other rosters and contemplate making a trade. Even after the worst fantasy football draft, your team should be strong at one position at the very least. Use that to your advantage and make a deal or two with other owners. Maybe you're strong at wide receiver. Find an owner with worse receivers than your team and try to pick up a running back or QB.

    • 3). Read the injury reports daily to find players that weren't picked up in the draft. Every NFL team suffers from injuries during camp and pre-season games. Because of this, guys that started out on the bench are given a chance to start. Many of those players turn out to have fantastic years. Find these players in free agency during the pre-season and take a chance on them. After a bad fantasy football draft, you have nothing to lose.

    • 4). Find rookies who will be starting for their teams and pick them up. In most fantasy football drafts, only a handful of rookies will be drafted as owners like to pick players they know and trust. This means that these rookies will often not be picked up until the end of pre-season at the earliest. Once a team announces that a rookie will be starting, take a chance on him and pick him up. This can't really hurt your team, especially if your team's weakness is the same position as that player's.
