103 129
Starting up a blog site is easy, maintaining it can be learned but making sure that it gets read is the catch.
This part is a lot trickier than the first two mentioned must-do in blogging.
With the rest of the world as your competition and somehow a possibility of having the same idea with another person, getting your blog read is very difficult.
You have to make sure some people read your content, follow up on it and spread the word.
But how do you do that? How do you make a blog that everyone will read?
  1. Link it up to sites - even your competitor's.
Find a site that features related articles or content like yours and link it up to yours.
  2. You can do this by commenting on their content and putting a link to your site.
You have a shared target audience; this will make it easier and a lot sweeter.
  3. Link well and do not spam.
Provide content to your comments on these related blogs.
  4. Never leave your comments looking like spam messages and then a link to your blog.
This will only get you in trouble with the owner and I guarantee you, you will NOT get a following from this.
  5. Comment smartly and interactively.
Strike up a conversation with these comments.
  6. Involve not only the webmaster but also your readers by making sure you give the impression that you do have knowledge on the stuff that they are talking about.
Make them see that you too share the same idea or can even add to their idea.
  7. Never underestimate the power of tagging your blogs.
Like the keywords, tags will increase your visibility on blog sites.
  8. Putting a specific tag to your blog will help your blog belong to a certain category of which your target audience is situated.
  9. Keep a subscription to your site in forms of newsletters and mailing lists.
This will make you seem like you really want to reach out to your readers and make it as interactive as possible.
  10. This will keep your readers up to date of what's going on on your blog.
This encourages repeat visits and a constant following.
  11. Maintain content to your mailing list.
Do not send empty messages, URLs and seemingly empty content to your list.
  12. You should be able to encourage them to follow your blog so, you write about whatever can entice their attention to make them visit your blog.
It has to be of relevant content and somewhat like a preview of what's to look forward to on your site.
  13. Make use of RSS feeds to keep your followers coming back for second helpings.
