How to Keep My Baby Sleeping on Her Side
- 1). Place your baby into the crib on his or her side with the baby's back firmly propped against the side bumper of the crib.
- 2). Bring your baby's lower arm out forward on the mattress so that it's at a right angle to his or her body.
- 3). Keep soft items such as blankets, pillows and stuffed animals far away from your infant while he or she sleeps. If these items are near your baby's face, suffocation could occur.
- 4). Stay vigilant about bedroom temperatures while your baby sleeps, especially if he or she is not sleeping on his or her back, warns the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD). Make sure to prevent your baby from overheating, as this may increase the risk of SIDS, according to the AAP.
