How to File a Quit Claim for Property

    • 1). Review the completed quitclaim deed for accuracy before you file with the court. Check spellings of the grantor and grantee's names, and check that the legal address of the property is correct.

    • 2). Take the quitclaim deed to the court in your area that handles deeds. This may be the County Clerk's office, the Register of Deed's Office or the County Recorder's Office. If you are unsure, contact your local Clerk of the Court and ask where you file a quitclaim deed.

    • 3). Keep a certified copy in your personal records. The court clerk will be able to provide you with certified records.
