The 20 Second Method to Deal With Panic Attacks

103 23
Panic attacks can be devastating on one's life and career.
One of the worst things anyone who suffers from these attacks can do is to not seek treatment.
Anxiety attacks can wreak havoc on you emotionally and physically if you don't seek help in trying to deal with and overcome them.
A simple yet very effective way you can begin to cope with anxiety attacks is by using a simple 20 second method.
The 20 second method works on the basis that you give your attack 20 seconds to do the worst it can.
Many anxiety attack sufferers believe that their panic attack will cause some permanent physical harm or damage to their body.
So, you tell your panic attack that it has 20 seconds to do whatever physical harm it is that you are worried it will cause.
If your heart is going to explode then it will explode within this time.
If you are going to pass out then it will happen within 20 seconds.
I am sure by now you know what I mean.
The next time you suffer from an attack, give it 20 seconds to do its worst.
Countdown slowly from 20 until you reach zero and allow the episode enough time to run its course.
Just why is this method meant to be effective? It is effective because it gives you something you need badly but lack during anxiety attacks, control.
You are setting the rules and are putting yourself on the path to gaining control over an attack.
By simply counting down from 20 to zero places you in the position of control over the attack and not at its mercy.
Don't rush when you count.
It may not be an exact 20 seconds, and that is not the main focus of this method.
Take your time and count slowly down from 20.
The more you practice this the more you will discover that you aren't going to die and that your attack is nothing more than a physical sensation.
You will slowly but surely begin to gain control of yourself and your attack as time goes on.
Most people use simple breathing exercises that teach them how to cope with their attacks and not how to overcome them.
By using this method you are instead facing your greatest fear and putting yourself one step closer to one day being entirely free from attacks.
The only way you will ever be free of attacks is to face them and deal with them head on.
