Okay, it's probably not a Martian totem pole, but what the heck is that thing? Does it look like a natural formation to you? Is there natural formation comparable to it on Earth?

And in case you thought this was a doctored photo, here's the original NASA raw image.

It appears to be a pole-shaped object with roundish objects on it that look like they have carvings on them. And the whole thing is standing in a very smooth section of ground, like it was deliberately planted there.

A video on YouTube, from www.whatsupinthesky.com attempting to analyze what it calls a "hand-crafted object" also takes a look at some of the surrounding debris and suggests that it might be pieces broken off of the object.

So what do you think? A highly unusual rock formation? Or something else? Either way, Mars is one weird place.
