The Showdown: Google Algorithm Vs Article Marketing

103 32
Article marketing as we know it may be changed forever.
On 2/24/11, Google announced: "In the last day or so we launched a pretty big algorithmic improvement to our ranking - a change that noticeably impacts 11.
8% of our queries..
..
" 11.
8% is a very big number when you consider the millions of websites on the net.
So how does the Google algorithm change affect article marketing? Let's take a look.
Google Algorithm Changes The Google algorithm has always been an ever-changing creature but the changes are usually so subtle that few people notice them.
Google states that this new update will eliminate what they consider low quality sites - sites that contain copy content from other sites or sites that are just not very useful.
They believe that this will provide better rankings for high quality sites - sites with original content and information such as research, thoughtful analysis and so on.
How the Changes Affect Article Marketing So how do the Google algorithm changes affect article marketing? Look up in the paragraph above and notice what Google is now considering low quality sites - "sites that contain copy content from other sites".
This pretty much encompasses anything that resembles an article directory or authority site.
As a result, major article directories have significantly dropped in Google rankings; Squidoo and Hubpages rankings have dropped; and authority sites such as eHow and About.
com have also dropped significantly.
Google is now considering these kinds of sites "content farms" and they are penalizing them heavily.
It used to be that you could type a keyword into Google and the chances were very good that an article from any major article directory or articles from Hubpages or Squidoo would be listed on the first page.
And it was a common known article marketing practice to use these types of directories to get yourself on the first page of Google because authority sites ranked faster than other sites.
But that is not necessarily true since these changes have been implemented.
An article that used to rank very high (first page) from one of these directories may be further on down the page or, more unfortunately, may have even disappeared into thin air.
Article Marketing Survival Tips Does this mean you should give up article marketing altogether? No way! If you've been doing your article marketing in the correct way, you've been putting your articles on your personal website or blog as well as the article directories.
Now your website or blog has a chance of ranking higher because Google will view that site as more valuable than the authority sites.
(Google kind of did a 180 on this one...
).
The thing to do now is keep doing the article marketing (and keep submitting to the article directories) but also promote them on your personal sites and start getting back links to those articles on your sites as well.
I think in the end the article directories are going to come back.
The thing to do now is to embrace these changes (don't panic!), start positioning yourself in the right way, and when the dust settles...
you will be on the winning side.
