Dolls One Letter at a Time

Here is a fun alphabet with doll collectors in mind.  It also serves as a short glossary of terms to whet one’s appetite for dolls we may not have heard of.  See if you can come up with your own personal doll alphabet, and ask your kids and grandkids to help.  Children love alphabet books and a doll alphabet might encourage a young collector!

A is for antique dolls, 100 years and older. Apples used for doll faces wrinkled and tart, American Girls, Appalachian folk dolls, too.

Arrow Plastics, A&E, Arranbee, and more.

B is for Bru, a French Bisque doll mid-19th century, and Barbie of course

C is for cloth dolls, Raggedies, Lenci, I. Walker, Chase [another C!], N. Wellings, K. Kruse, Chad Valley [still another C], Ancient Roman rag dolls, Charlotte [C No. 3 of Little House] and more.

D is for Doll House, where all the dollies live, for Dawn and friends, for Disney’s furry kids.

E is for Etrennes, gift giving time, see France, The Louvre Department Store and more. For us it means Effanbee, with Patsy and friend.

F is for Fisher Price, Baby Ann, Dressy Bessy and Dapper Dan, and Little People galore. Frozen Charlotte loves this letter, too, and finds her way here, if only to be warm.

G is for Gourmand, as in Bebe Gourmand. Also, Ginny Graves, namesake for that special doll. The Golden Girls of Galoob also find G their home.

H is for Halopeau, another French miss.  And, Huret, as in Pewter Headed, my doll Holy Grail. H is also for Horseman, an American girl, to us. Though; it could be Hasbro, and our pal G.

I. Joe.  H is also for homemade, and all the folk dolls people make.

I is for Izannah Walker, but also Ideal, who gave to us Tammy, Pepper, and more

J is for Jumeau, what else could it be? Though, Jack-in-the box, doll cousin may be.

K is for Kestner, the king of them all, and Knickerbocker, and Kruse, and also for Kewpie, and Rose O, my muse

L is for Lenci, who felt for her dolls, and Liza Littlechap and her family, so stylishly dressed, and Liddell Kiddles so hot in my day

M is for Madame Alexander, for Wendy, for Cissy, Cissette, Maggie, and more.  Mego made action figures, and started a doll war. Let’s not forget Maezel, and mamma dolls morel

N is for Nancy Ann, storybooks and lands afar, and Fancy Nancy,

O is for Original boxes and we hope Mint in Package and Never Removed from Box

P is for porcelain, from which so many dolls are made, and for Posey, A Living Dead Doll Maid.

R is for rare, like Rohmer or Huret, and Glenda Rolle, our friend, and her Sand Babies by the Bay.

S is for Santa who brings collectors luck

T is for Topper, Deluxe, Dawn and friends, but also dolls’ cousins, Teddy Bears, Teddy Ruxpin, Pooh, Paddington, the list never ends

U is for Uneeda, made again

V is for Vogue, dolls and their styles; vintage describes them and other dolls, while Van Patten, Denise, is a friend to all writers of dolls and About.

W is for Walkure, Valkyrie to us, and Wellings, Nora.  Also, Webkins and secret online codes.

X is for Xenophon who writes of puppets, and  Xenis dolls.

Z is for MeZco, who brings us the Living Dead, and for ZuZu Pets, so silly but fun.
