Ideas to Decorate Chairs at a Reception
- An innovative way to decorate the chairs at your reception is to use dual-colored material pulled in a diagonal sweep across the chair. Cut two colors of sheer fabrics like tulle or netting about 2 1/2 feet long and 12 inches wide. Holding the two pieces together, wrap a rubber band around each about 4 inches from each end. Use another rubber band to attach one end to the top left corner of a chair, then attach the other one in the same way at the opposite corner. Tie ribbon around the rubber bands and pull the ends apart to create a flower look.
- For a classy, unique touch, decorate the reception chairs using a shawl effect. Drape 2 yards of fabric over one "shoulder" of the chair and tie at at the base. Affix a miniature bouquet or large flower to the side, where the fabric is tied to the chair. Use fabric that matches the color scheme of the wedding. This makes the perfect backdrop for the wedding party.
- For a flowing, whimsical look, wrap the backs of the chairs in 3 yards of satin, tulle or taffeta. Pull the fabric taut (but not too tight), then tie a large bow in the back. Insert a single silk flower into the center of the bow. If you prefer fresh flowers, use a water tube and attach it to the chair with floral wire before you wrap the material around it. Tie the bow across the water tube, allowing the flower to peek out from behind it.
- Think outside the box. Rather than focusing on the back of the chair, consider using the legs of the chair in the decorating process. Tie ribbons and bows around all four legs of the chairs. Tie the bows just below the seat and allow several inches of ribbon (making sure it doesn't reach the ground) to flow from the bow.
