Wording Ideas for a Two-Year-Old's Monkey-Themed Birthday
- A spin on the classic cake walk, the Monkey Around station is a circle game where a different child wins every time the music stops. Place numbered sheets of paper on the ground, equal to or greater in number than the amount of party guests. Copy the numbers used on the ground onto small pieces of paper and place them in a hat. Have party guests (with grown-up assistance) walk in a circle to music (possibly "Hey, Hey, We're the Monkees"). When the music stops, each guest stands on the closest sheet of paper. The game leader draws a number from a hat and the child standing on that number wins that round and a prize, possibly a cupcake or a small stuffed monkey. Repeat the game as many times as necessary to give away all the prizes.
- The Go Bananas! station is a race. Mark out an area to be used for the race by lining the perimeter with cutout pictures of bananas. The starting line can also be made of banana cutouts. The finish line should be more distinguishable, possibly by propping up cutouts of banana bunches on craft sticks or by having two adults hold ends of a yellow ribbon just above the ground, where the children will see it but will not trip over it. The prize for winning this game should be banana-themed, possibly a yellow ribbon with a small banana cutout at the top.
- Monkey See, Monkey Do is a coloring station. The adult party host should print out several of the same picture and color one as an example, then allow the children to color their own. They do not have to attempt to copy the example, but it is an option as a challenge. They will have to discern which colors were used and then attempt to use them in the same way. The picture should be simple, such as a monkey's face or a half-peeled banana.
- It's a Jungle Out there is a mix between hide-and-seek and a scavenger hunt. Adult party host should hide several small stuffed monkeys and toy bananas (or cardboard cutouts of monkeys and bananas) around the scavenger hunt area. If it is an outdoor party, the swing set and the bushes are great hiding places. Give each child a small bag or basket and encourage them to look for the lost monkeys or monkey food. Children are permitted to keep any monkeys or bananas they find.
