Finding The Right Time To Workout
When do I work out? That is a very tough question for many people especially for those with a busy schedule.
Some people work 60+ hours a week, and some work 24 hour shifts.
For the average Joe, finding the right time isn''t all too difficult.
But today who is average? Most people nowadays are working harder for less money with fewer resources.
And what about the person who just can't get up and get going in the morning for several hours? There is always something holding us back from working out.
We just need to know how to adapt to fit exercise in our lives.
Let's talk first about morning people.
These people have the easiest answer to the question which is work out first thing in the morning.
If you are worried about working out on an empty stomach don't! You should only worry it if you are an elite athlete working out several hours a day.
I do very intense workouts lasting around an hour all the time on an empty stomach and I tell you I feel great the rest of the day.
Just make sure you have the proper recovery meal following your workout.
I am not a morning person but I still drag myself out of the bed early in the morning and do my workout because I know if I don't that my chances of doing it later are not very good.
So that being said, first thing in the morning is the best time in my opinion.
It is understood that morning workouts just can't be done by everybody so whats your second choice? Well if you work, and don't get an extended lunch, the evening workout will have to be second choice.
I would suggest doing it as soon as you can after work.
Again, like early in the morning, the later you wait the chances of completing your workout go down.
I would definitely recommend using a pre-workout drink for this time for it will give you a sense of alertness and the energy needed after a long day of work.
You are going to need to eat your dinner soon after your session to let the food digest before going to sleep or you may store more fat from your food than usual.
The last option, and the one that will be most likely for parents of young children, will be the late night workout after the kids and everything else has been taken care of.
If you can do this regularly great! You will still see great results as long as you are giving it all you got.
Take caution from using pre-workout drinks this late because they can keep you up even later.
As far as dinner I would eat with the family early and for a post-wokout meal drink only something liquid like a good carb-protien rich shake.
The shake will store less fat in your body than solid food.
If you are still unsure of when to workout I would recommend getting up an hour earlier and doing your workout then.
You will greatly appreciate it the rest of the day mentally as well as physically.
Whatever the time of day you workout the key is simply to give it your best shot.
