How to Make Wire Clasps for Pendants

    • 1). Measure and cut the amount of wire needed using the straight wire cutter, for either the fish hook and eye or bail clasp style. You can use more or less wire depending on how large or small you would like your clasp to be. File the ends of the wire for a more polished look. If you are not sure of the exact size you need your final product to be, cut a little more wire and trim as needed when you are ready to finalize.

    • 2). Bend one end of the wire to create a loop for the hook of your necklace using the round-nose pliers. You can size your loop depending on how large or small the hook of your necklace is. For the bail clasp, you will need to create a pendant connector by bending the wire into a loop, leaving it slightly open so you can slide the pendant into the loop. Close the bail clasp loop using flat-nosed pliers to secure the pendant into the loop.

    • 3). Bend the other end of the wire past your original loop and then create another smaller loop with the pliers, this time looping the wire in the opposite direction as your first loop in order to finish the opposite end of the fish hook and eye clasp. If there is any excess wire left after creating the smaller loop, you may cut if off at this point.

    • 4). Flatten the larger of the loops by slightly hammering it. Use a jump ring to securely attach your clasp to the necklace. You will need to open the jump rings using a pair of flat nosed pliers, by pushing one end of the forward while pulling the other end backwards. Insert the open ring through each loop of the clasp. Insert a chain from the necklace into the jump ring and close the ring using flat nosed pliers. Loop the pendant into the smaller loops of the clasp and hammer it as well. You might need to close this loop a little tighter with your pliers before hammering it.
