How to Write a Resume for a Job Fair
- 1). Research the types of companies attending the job fair. This will give you a better idea of how to structure your resume. Most job fairs have websites or advertise in local newspapers that include a list of companies attending.
- 2). Create a professional resume. Select a simple font that is easy to read. Fonts that are acceptable include Times New Roman, Tahoma or Arial. Type your full name, address and contact information (including email address) at the top of the page.
- 3). Separate your resume into four sections: Objective, Work Experience, Education and Skills. Each section should have its own heading.
- 4). Compose an objective statement. This statement should address the type of position you're looking for. Objective statements should be no longer than two sentences. If submitting your resume to companies in different industries, create multiple versions with different objective statements.
An example objective statement might say, "To find work in the finance industry as a financial analyst, specializing in overseas markets." - 5). List previous positions you've held in the section titled Work Experience. List the most recent position first and include a brief statement of your job duties and how long you held the position. Try to include at least three previous positions in your resume.
If you're a recent college graduate and have little work experience, list summer jobs, internships, volunteer work or other instances where you demonstrated leadership, management or communications skills. - 6). List college or training you received in the section titled Education. List the most recent college attended first. Include your major, GPA and years attended. You can also include date of graduation.
- 7). List special skills you have that may be applicable to your job search in the section titled Skills. Examples of skills include typing (speed and accuracy), computer software experience, customer service skills, event planning skills and writing skills. If creating multiple resumes for specific industries, list the skills you have that would be applicable for each industry.
- 8). Create a list of job and personal references. List names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of former supervisors, professors, friends or relatives. Job references should be listed on a separate page, but included as part of your resume. Letters of recommendation from college instructors, previous employers or internship supervisors are acceptable as well. Make copies of these letters and keep the originals for your files.
