    • Windows XP Professional edition is an operating system offered by Microsoft. It is an upgraded version of Windows XP Home edition that is better suited for business users and comes with added networking and media center features.

    System Restore Identification

    • The system restore tool comes standard on all editions of Microsoft Windows XP. The restore tool uses restore points to revert your Windows installation to a previous date. This can address problems caused by virus infections and corrupt programs without requiring you to wipe the hard drive.

    Creating a Restore Point

    • Windows XP Professional periodically creates restore points for system restore to use. Restore points bookmark your operating system on a certain date, saving its configuration for future restoration. When you open the system restore tool, you have the option to create a restore point for the current date. This restore point is saved along with the automatic restore points created by the operating system.

    Using System Restore

    • You can access the System Restore Wizard by selecting "System Restore" from the System Tools list found on the Start menu. This wizard takes you through the steps to restore your system to a previous date. During the process, you can choose a restore date or let Windows XP choose one for you. After the system restore is complete, you will have access only to the previous operating system installation, but your files and folders will remain intact.
