How to Do Slow Rust Bluing
- 1). Sand out all pits and polish the metal with 320 grit sandpaper.
- 2). Use a sponge or soft brush to apply the bluing solution to all parts of the metal. Place the metal in a warm and humid location for a minimum of three hours. Waiting 24 hours or more will make the process more efficient.
- 3). Submerge the metal in boiling, distilled water. Allow to sit for five minutes, then remove carefully with tongs. Gently sand the metal with 0000 steel wool. You will see the finish begin to emerge.
- 4). Repeat the application until the desired finish is achieved.
