How to Make a Lightweight Beanie Skull Cap
- 1). Visit beginners crochet sites if you have never crocheted before. Learn the basic stitches and pattern instructions before you attempt to make this pattern.
- 2). Chain three and join to make a circle. Start round one: Chain three plus one -- this counts as the first half double crochet throughout the pattern. Make nine half double crochets and chain one. A half double crochet means placing the yarn over the hook, inserting the hook in the next stitch to be worked, placing the yarn over the hook, pulling the yarn through the stitch, placing the yarn over the hook again and pulling the yarn through all three loops on the hook. Single chain into the beginning chain to join.
- 3). Chain three and work a half double crochet. Chain one in the same space. Work a half double crochet, chain 1, half double crochet, chain 1 in each space around and repeat to the end for a total of 20 half double crochets and chain 1s. Join with a single crochet. This is round two. Repeat this process for rounds three and four.
- 4). Chain 3, half double crochet, CH1 in the same space, half double crochet, chain 1 in the next space. Now increase with half double crochet chain 1, half double crochet chain 1 in the same space and half double crochet chain 1 in the next space. Repeat all the way around to make a total of 30 sequences. This is round five. Chain 3, half double crochet, chain 1 in each space and join each round with a single crochet for rounds six through 16.
- 5). Make the band in round 17, Chain one and make two single crochets in each space all the way around and join to the beginning with a single crochet for a total of 60 single crochets. For the final round, 18, chain 1, single crochet in each single crochet around and join. Finish off your work. Thread the end of the yarn through your tapestry needle and weave in all the ends with a needle.
