Listening Training Games
- The City College of San Francisco offers online listening activities that allow you to test your English. The games include following directions to reach a destination, listening to phone numbers and choosing the right one out of the possible answers, as well as listening to real-life conversations (such as at a store or bank) and answering questions based on them. All games use flash technology, so you must have the latest Adobe Flash Player installed.
- Audio Concentration Games by ManyThings.org are a series of memory games, where you have to match the pairs according to what you listen to. Clicking on a block gives you a sound rather than an image and so you must have good listening skills in addition to a strong memory. The sounds you must match range from homophones (words with the same sound, but different meanings), family members, months of the year and jobs (at the "Java" section of the website).
- Memory Wheel by BarryFunEnglish is a flash-based application that allows you to take part in a Simon Says-like game. On the first screen of the application you can choose the category that you want to practice, with options ranging from actions to food and drinks and prepositions. During the game, you must click on the parts of the wheel containing items the game just pronounced and in the same order. Since the parts of the wheel also flash momentarily, it's also an opportunity to enrich your vocabulary.
- Easter by MES-Games is a listening comprehension activity suitable primarily for ESL beginners and young students. The rules of the game are straightforward: memorize the position of certain images (Easter bunnies, eggs and lilies, for instance) and, after they are covered with Easter eggs, spot a specific item according to the game's vocal instructions. The purpose of the game is to collect as many lives as possible; you earn one life for each correct answer and lose one when you're wrong.
