Choose the Nursing Specialty Right For You Whether Experienced or New

If you are a new graduate nurse, it is best to affiliate with a large hospital in your area so that you will be able to get experience.
You will be able to choose from the different specialty areas as positions become available within the hospital.
Most hospitals allow you to work or rotate in the different areas and on different shifts.
If you are an experienced nurse the same applies to you, but you have a head start because you already have some experience and you have a better feel for what you want and can do.
Some of the most rewarding careers that can be found in the hospital specialty areas are: Emergency room Cardiology Pediatrics Surgical Obstetrical - (Labor and Delivery, Postpartum) Orthopedics Trauma Bariatrics Gerontology Psychiatric Nurse management Nurse practitioner These are more specialty areas in the hospital than listed here, once you start finding out what's available in each particular hospital then it will be easier to find your niche.
Nursing is not like it use to be.
Typically all hospitals have a medical- surgical unit or floor.
Since the medical field has grown so much with the vast array of technology, research and inventions, it is better to help you with your choices towards career advancement and/or achievements.
If you choose not to work in a hospital, there are other specialty areas that can also be rewarding.
(Some of these can also be found in a hospital setting, direct or indirectly) Nursing instructor Traveling nurse Private duty or agency nurse Military nurse Legal nurse consultant Case management Forensic Dialysis or renal nurse Pharmaceutical nurse Home health care nurse Research nurse Plus more They may or may not require extra education and/or experience.
It all depends on the specialty and the requirements of each.
With a little research you will be able to match your personality to a specialty and be perfectly satisfied with you choice.
Try not to get "bogged down" in an area too long if you don't like it.
This will cause you to become frustrated and just see the profession as a job.
Make it something that you like and enjoy doing, and the rewards will follow.
Try getting as much experience as possible.
It is also possible to get experience and specialize in more than one area.
This is even better because it gives you the autonomy to be flexible and have a back-up career.
