Things to Consider When Comparing Gas Furnaces

During my first twenty years as a professional, I have traveled across this country a good many times, searching for, and landing the "right" jobs.
My main focus has been on career development.
This has been my sole priority, until recently.
I am now in my mid 40's and I have thoughts about finding a partner and starting a family.
I'm well enough off financially so I can nail down some of the preliminaries such as purchasing my first house.
I want an old house, but I have concerns about their fuel efficiency due to older furnace units.
I have decided to cost compare gas furnaces.
I suspect that like most other people, I know nothing about how to do this.
So, I went online, entered a few keyword phrases and downloaded some information to review later, at my own convenience.
Following this, I went in to town and visited several hardware stores and heating companies.
I asked for printed information they might have available and took some home.
In reviewing all this information, I learned many things about how to price compare gas furnaces.
There is an upfront consideration to having a new gas furnace installed and this is the cost of new electrical wiring and/or an updated duct system.
It's a bit frightening to realize this potential cost, but it really is best to know and save for it beforehand.
Okay, now we can move on to more comparison specifics.
One big mistake that people make is to over spend on a furnace by purchasing a heating unit with too large a capacity.
Oversize does not equate to better and more efficient heating.
This is one huge mistake to make when you try to compare gas furnaces with each other.
It's important also to review a model's overall energy efficiency rating, it's estimated annual fuel costs and the expected estimated annual fuel savings.
Don't wait until an energy crisis hits you in the cold winter months.
Do your homework now, before your furnace ceases to function and you are having to problem solve from a position of panic instead of from a position of calm, informed consent.
