Humor In Eccentricity

103 17
Eccentricity is associated with intense creativity or curiosity and with intellectually gifted geniuses.
But if some of us in the pursuit of being different from other mortals try to cultivate eccentricity only humor emanates from their efforts.
Just take a look what English utilitarian thinker John Stuart Mill says about this behavioral phenomenon-"the amount of eccentricity in a society has generally been proportional to the amount of genius, mental vigor, and moral courage which it contained, and a lack of eccentricity is the chief danger of the time".
For a further insight British poet and critic Edith Sitwell wrote that eccentricity was "often a kind of innocent pride", also said that geniuses and aristocrats were called eccentrics because "they are entirely unafraid of and uninfluenced by the opinions and vagaries of the crowd".
No wonder that the likes of Albert Einstein, Oscar Wilde, Lord Byron and many more are held in awestruck admiration for their eccentric genius.
And no doubt that there would definitely be dumbstruck followers.
Now, why one needs to cultivate eccentricity? Well, one basically tries to be different ridden with a superiority complex.
They think they are immensely creative and gifted beings by virtue of what they are doing in various fields.
If they mix with others as normal mortals nobody would notice their intrinsic difference.
So, they decide to take resort to eccentricity.
Let us take the case of journalists who are in charge of news bureaus.
S/he is the boss and it must be spelt out irrevocably.
Going to a micro level one such person behaves unpredictably so that nobody would be sure what he is going to do next.
He would continuously stare at the subordinates with an expressionless face so that nobody would know if he is trying to address them or smile at them or be friendly with them.
He would drive away the seniors who are proven hands and welcome the crash newcomers so that his real motives are never understood.
What you can do? Just laugh it off and hilariously share with your normal friends! Similar patterns are also observed in the case of top bureaucrats.
When a subordinate makes a mistake they would not show anger, but laugh so sarcastically that the poor fellow would not know what to do or how to react.
Going to a micro level one admin head surrounded by files would not seem to listen to what his assistants or visitors are asking or saying to him.
But after an eternity he would response to those queries making the point how intelligent attentive and efficient he is.
His 'difference' would be so painstakingly clear that next time nobody would know when exactly to ask him or talk to him.
What you can do? Just laugh it off and hilariously share with your normal friends! Film directors are supposed to be the most creative and talented souls on earth.
Naturally, they are most vulnerable to cultivated eccentricity.
You may be associated with one of them and you may think he is like a true friend.
But when that director goes to the shooting floor he would be so deeply dissolved in creative thinking that he would not even recognize you or respond to even your greetings.
He would take every opportunity to create a situation of creative madness in the sets when somebody in the crew would marginally falter in his/her errands or make a petty harmless mistake.
What you can do? Just laugh it off and hilariously share with your normal friends! Dear me, how can we exclude writers! So many of them would think that they are true geniuses and most misunderstood.
But they would hardly care reducing the confusion, but would gleefully take recourse to cultivated eccentricity to confound it.
Going to a micro level one famous writer when making phone calls would never say hello to the receiver, but would just announce his name and wait for effect.
Ordinary mortals must understand how to handle such 'difference'.
What you can do? Just laugh it off and hilariously share with your normal friends! In some other professions like doctors, lawyers or businessmen, the 'different' people would not assert their 'difference' immediately, because it might cost them their patients or clients! You may very well afford to be eccentric or different at the nominal cost of being laughed at.
No problem! No harm meant or done! Right?
