Betta Constipation - How to Care For a Constipated Betta Fish

103 18
Betta constipation is very common among betta fish.
What are the signs that your little marine friend is suffering from betta constipation? - The most obvious sign is a bloated underbelly.
- Lack of fecal matter in your fish's tank is another obvious sign that your betta may be constipated.
The primary cause of betta constipation is overfeeding.
Betta fish are extremely sensitive to overfeeding.
Some fish food containers have directions that instruct you to feed the fish "as much as it can eat within 2 to 5 minutes".
Disregard those instructions.
They don't apply to betta fish.
Your betta's stomach is the same size as its eyeball, so the amount of food you feed at any given time shouldn't exceed that.
That equates to about 2 to 3 pellets or 3 to 4 bloodworms.
Feeding them this much, one or two times daily is all your betta needs in order to stay healthy.
Many people often make the mistake of feeding their bettas more than twice a day, and pouring too much food into the fish tank all at once.
The simplest way you can cure betta constipation is let it fast for one day.
This won't hurt your betta.
This aids in cleansing its digestive system naturally.
Oftentimes this itself will cure the constipation.
If your betta is still constipated after a couple of days, feed it the inside of a pea.
Remove the skin and offer it a small portion, no larger than the size of its eyeballs.
