The Scintillating Gokak falls
Introduction
Situated on the river Ghataprabha, which is at a distance of 70 kilometers from the district of Belgaum in the state Karnataka is the Gokak Falls. The waterfall is merely 6 km away from the Gokak town, hence the name €Gokak falls€. The river when separates from the river Malaprabha off the hills of Belgaum flows between the plains of black soil before entering the Gokak rocks.
The town of Gokak is rapidly growing by establishing various industries, business etc. It is also famous for sweets like ladagi laadu and karadantu. The toy wooden fruits and flowers are manufactured here and are liked by everyone.
The place has its own historical and philosophical significance and also has a fort on the city's west side.
Tourist Attraction
The attractive river leaps at around 170 ft high from the river Ghataprabha above the sandstone cliff and is shaped like a horseshoe, which is the main symbol of the valley. If you watch the waterfalls closely you can get the feeling of watching the Niagara fall in a smaller scale. Yes, the overall characteristics of the waterfall such as shape, height and speed resemble the Niagara Falls. The Snarling sound of the waterfall can be easily heard before reaching here from a distance.
The hanging bridge above the river is around 201 mts long with a height of about 14 mts above the rock bed. The capacity of the bridge is around 30 people at one time. The oldest electricity generation station is located here and initiated the generation first time in the year 1887.
Another attractive highlight of the place is the Chalukya age monuments found on the banks of the Gokak waterfall rocks. The old river temple also attracts many visitors. The temple is devoted to Lord Shiva. The sight of the waterfall in front of the temple is awesome. The sanctuary in this place has a built in mandapa of the latest time.
