Troubleshooting a Hotpoint Refrigerator's Ice Maker
- 1). Turn on the Hotpoint ice maker by sliding the power switch on the ice maker to the “On” position if no ice is being produced. Allow 12 to 24 hours for production to ramp up and ice to be made.
- 2). Lower the freezer temperature if the ice maker has been installed and turned on for at least 24 hours but no ice is produced. Press “Colder” on the control panel under “Adjust Freezer Temp,” or turn the freezer control dial to a lower setting. The freezer must be at 15 degrees Fahrenheit or cooler to produce ice. Look behind the refrigerator to make sure the water line is connected to the refrigerator and is not bent or trapped. Adjust the water line as needed.
- 3). Throw away any ice that does not taste or smell good, which is common immediately after refrigerator installation, after a long period of nonuse or if food odors have transferred into the ice. Wash out the ice bin and cover food items to prevent odors from entering the ice.
- 4). Set the ice maker to “Off” before removing the ice storage drawer, and then pull the drawer out and up. Turn the drive mechanism one-quarter turn on the storage drawer if the storage drawer does not click into position when placed back in the freezer.
- 5). Touch the “Lock Control” pad for three seconds if the ice dispenser is not working and none of the other control key pads are functional to unlock the control lock.
- 6). Replace the water filter if the filter has not been changed in more than six months, and the ice cubes are getting smaller or hollow in appearance.
- 7). Take some of the cubes from the ice bin if the green light on the ice maker is blinking, which means the ice bin has gotten too full.
- 8). Push any ice cubes through that are jamming the chute if the ice dispenser is on, the bin is full and the control lock is not on but no ice is coming out.
