"I Love Lucy" Episode - A Great Marriage Lesson!
If you are younger than 40, you probably aren't that familiar with Lucille Ball.
But reruns run regularly on cable and trust me; you will be laughing up a storm.
Lucy is married to Ricky Ricardo, a big band leader.
Lucy always gets herself into predicaments where she embarrasses Ricky with her quirky behavior.
In this episode, they were visiting Europe and Ricky had an emergency to return to the United States for his band to perform at a club in New York City.
Lucy was told that she could only bring 60 pounds of personal items on the plane, including all her luggage and incidentals.
Otherwise there would be extra fees...
sound familiar to 2012? However, Lucy had a problem as she purchased a number of heavier objects that she wanted to bring back to her mother and friends.
Ricky told Lucy that she would have to ship these items home via boat.
But Lucy had one thing that she insisted be taken home immediately, as she promised it to her mother.
The gift was a 25 pound block of cheese.
The cheese was packed in a cylinder shape, like a big,, thick sausage.
Lucy had a scheme, as she always does.
She figured that babies travel for free, so she wrapped the cheese in a blanket and took it on board.
What transpired was quite funny, but I need not go into great detail here.
It is what happened at the end that I wanted to share.
At the end of the episode, after the plane landed, there was a lot of commotion as airport security was questioning Lucy and Ricky about the absence of the "baby".
In the meantime, Ricky's band had to play a quick little number for the press, but before they started to play, Ricky asked Lucy where the cheese went.
Just at that moment, the camera came on and the band was instructed to play.
But no sounds came out of their instruments.
Lucy had stuffed all the instruments with the cheese.
Ricky at first got really mad at Lucy.
Then he smiled and said "Lucy, being married to you is not easy, but it sure is fun!" And isn't this what makes a marriage wonderful? If you really love someone, you are able to overlook a lot of the things the other person does and just smile.
It is when the relationship sours that every little thing turns into a point of contention.
So if you want to enjoy your marriage, keep smiling and appreciate your wife.
Support her, don't criticize her, and the two of you will have more fun in your relationship.
And I bet the sex will be a lot better too! Steve
