With the growth of social media networking as a marketing tool, it is becoming one of the top bootstrapping guerrilla marketing tools for authors.
Writers are seeing a wide variety of uses of social media in growing their businesses.
As a social media consultant, clients who are book authors have told me they have they effectively used Twitter to grow sales and find new clients simply by staying on the pulse of requests for their services and books.
One author sent out a series of tweets saying he had 750 overstocked books that he wanted to sell for cheap, and gave the web address to his website.
Within a couple hours he received a direct message from a book seller wanting to buy the whole lot, which of course he did.
In actuality, the books were not overstock; he just wanted to sell books fast.
He has since used this strategy many times over.
The best part of it is that this marketing scheme that netted him several thousands of dollars did not cost him a penny.
Imagine the time and expense he saved not having to sit in book signing for hours on end to sell the same 750 books! Another client uses Twitter for customer service and to provide support to those looking for more information about their products.
If you are an author, because of your book writing you will be asked by a major players to write article for their programs, speak at conferences and other events.
All through the use of social networking tools.
Another strategy to use when looking for qualified and respected people to help with the technical aspect for a proposed article or book you may be writing is to join the top industry groups on LinkedIn and put a query on their discussion boards, asking for recommendations for top subject matter experts.
You can then hand pick through those recommendations for people to help write the material.
You can also use the discussion tool on LinkedIn to regularly announce your book events, signings, speaking engagements, etc.
It is an excellent marketing tool to target groups and people that have a definite interest.
If you are out to attract prospective customers and develop your online presence and exposure, you owe it to yourself and the financial future of your business to learn everything you can about social media.
