Neonatal/ Baby Acne: Though most people think that it is just teens or adolescents that are affected with pimples, they can occur in babies as well.
It is interesting to note that newborn babies may sometimes have acne lesions on their face after birth.
This is caused by fluctuations in hormonal levels during and after birth.
However, this problem usually solves on its own and does not require any kind of treatment.

Adolescents and Teens: This is the most common age when pimples occur due to increased hormonal activity.
It is generally more severe and tends to be more frequent in men than in women since men produce more androgens - the hormone that stimulates sebaceous gland activity.

Hormonal changes during menstrual cycles, pregnancy and menopause lead to the emergence of pimples in women.
Studies have shown pimples that occurs more frequently during the week before menstruation.
These conditions remain present for about a week.
The changing balances of male and female hormones sometimes produce skin flare-ups.

Pimples could still persist into their thirties and mostly affects their chin, jaw line, upper chest and back.
Women who are totally acne-free in their younger years, could also get affected in adulthood.
