Directions to Make a Wedding Card Box

    Wedding Cake Card Box

    • Choose the classic wedding cake card box for an elegant wedding. Purchase three round hat-style boxes in varying sizes so they can be stacked to form a wedding cake structure. Cut the base out of the two smallest boxes, and stack them on each other, securing them with a hot glue gun. Leave the base intact for the largest, bottom layer of the cake, making the card box secure. It will later be cut open to retrieve the cards.

Decorate the boxes with fabric or paint. Choose sheer silk fabrics to cover the cake. Drape a large piece of fabric over the cake, using hat pins and hot glue to secure the fabric at the base of the layers. Decorate the edges of each layer with lace, ribbon, strings of pearls or clusters of small flowers to match the wedding colors. Cut a small slit in the top of the cake where the cards can be inserted. Use a small line of hot glue around the top to secure any frayed edges of fabric. Place miniature silk roses or ribbon along the glue to decorate the opening.

Or use spray paint on the cake boxes. Choose flat or textured paint. Allow the cake to dry, then add decorative elements and cut the slit in the top.

    Birdcage Card Box

    • Purchase an inexpensive decorative birdcage from a home interior store, and decorate it with ribbons, beads and tulle. Tie loose ribbons from the top of the cage so they cascade down the sides. Thread small decorative beads on clear thread and tie or drape them around the birdcage. Pile flowing tulle around the base of the birdcage. Place an example card in the birdcage so guests understand it is the card box.

    Mailbox Card Box

    • Buy an inexpensive, thin aluminum mailbox. Keep the door shut on the front of the mailbox and cut a vertical slit. Place the flag in the upright position, and attach a handwritten tag that says "Cards." Drape the mailbox with tulle fabric. Keep it puffy and loose, and secure it to the base of the mailbox with hot glue and clusters of small flowers.
