How to Register to Vote During the Cook County Grace Period
Grace Period Voter Registration Overview - Chicago and Cook County, IL:
You must register to vote by Tuesday, October 7, 2008 to participate in the November 4, 2008 General Presidential Election. If you've missed the October 7 registration deadline, there is a grace period for voter registration. The grace period runs from Wednesday, October 8, 2008 to Tuesday, October 21, 2008.
This grace period is in effect statewide.
If you live outside of Cook County, IL, you should contact your county clerk's office to learn about how you can take advantage of Illinois' two-week voter registration grace period.
How to Register to Vote During the Grace Period - Chicago and Cook County, IL:
Suburban Cook County IL grace period registrants must register to vote in person at one of the Clerk's six locations.
City of Chicago residents must go to the downtown Chicago location. Read more here from the Chicago Board of Elections.
Grace period registrants must vote in person at the Clerk's office immediately after signing up to vote.
Grace period registrants are not eligible to vote at the polls on Election Day or take part in Early Voting.
You will need to be eligible to vote in Cook County, IL and you will need to bring two pieces of identification to register.
Important Restrictions on Grace-Period Voter Registrations:
You must vote absentee if you are a grace-period voter.
According to the Cook County Clerk's office, you may vote immediately upon registering when you go in person at the clerk's office.
