5 Super Easy Steps For Making a Grape Trellis

103 36
If you are planning to grow grapes, you should know that a grape plant is a vine, which means it needs some kind of support to climb up to.
This support is called a grape trellis.
In making a trellis for your grape vines, it is very important to find the best materials which can support the weight of your vines and also the right knowledge on how to build one.
Here are the steps for making a grape trellis.
1.
Prepare all the materials and tools that you will need in constructing a trellis for your grape plants.
This depends on the kind of trellis that you want to build.
It could be made of wood or some wooden posts with wire.
If you have lots of grape plants, you might want to build a long trellis and something that could support the weight of a fast growing grape vine.
But if you only have a few grape vines, you can just build a grape trellis using sticks.
Keep in mind that the trellis should also be strong enough to withstand all types of weather.
You do not want to build something which you will just rebuild in a couple of weeks.
Make something that will last long.
2.
If you have a medium-sized or a big vineyard, it would be better if you make a plan first.
You should know the measurements and exact locations where you want to put your trellis.
You can use wooden stakes for this step or anything that will serve as a marking.
Make sure that you are giving your grape vines enough spaces in between them.
If you are planning to plant only a few grape plants in your backyard, it is fine if you do not map out the areas where you want to put the trellis.
Wooden trellis made of sticks is actually fine for the grape plants in your garden.
You do not need to make a fancy trellis.
Just make sure that it can support the weight of your grape vines.
3.
After making a plan, you can now start digging.
If you are using wooden posts, dig a hole on the ground about two feet deep.
Put the post into this hole and cover it with concrete.
This ensures that your posts are not wobbly.
4.
Let the concrete dry for about a couple of days before putting the wires.
Attach the wires on both end posts and secure them using screw eyes.
For the in-between posts, just staple the wires.
They do not have to be secured really well or tightly.
5.
Check each and every post if you have missed some important steps to make them sturdier and stronger.
If you cannot find any and if you think everything will be fine, you can now start planting your grape plants.
Make sure that you read everything there is to know about the specific grape variety that you have chosen to plant.
Grape trellis should be made before you decide to plant grapes.
Grapes grow fast and their vines could spread quickly in the first year.
Make sure that by the time this happens, your grape trellis is already ready for its purpose of supporting your grape plants.
