How to Splice a Copper Padlock
- 1). Put on your safety gloves and protective eye equipment. When cutting metal with a hacksaw, you could potentially hurt yourself by accidentally cutting your hand or getting a metal fragment in your eye.
- 2). Secure one side of the padlock loop with the jig or miter box. These tools will help you hold the lock in place while you are sawing through the copper. As the padlock will be destroyed in this process, it is not necessary to worry about making a straight cut but you will make more work for yourself if you do not hold the lock steady.
- 3). Cut through the padlock loop with a hacksaw. Take a break if necessary to rest your arm. If you feel the blade is getting dull through the cutting process, replace it with a new saw blade.
