How to Give your Garage or Shed a Makeover

105 34
If you have a garage or shed, there is a strong chance that you will want to make some changes to it at some point or another. Why exactly? There are a few very good reasons you might want to make such changes. First of all, the garage or shed might degrade over time and with that being the case you will want to fix the aesthetics simply to appease the neighbours or even members of your household. Then again you might have simply become bored of the way your shed looks and plan to make some changes for fun. If that is the case, now would be a great time to start thinking about your options.

What are your options exactly? What can you do? The first thing you need is to look at the exterior of the garage and determine whether or not it needs a makeover. If you deem that it does in fact require such modification, then you should think about the siding first and foremost. You have the option of using vinyl siding just like everyone else, though you could simply go for the wood panels that many other people tend to choose. Either way there is a strong chance that you can make your shed look much better than it does.

On the subject of the exterior, something that many people tend to forget is the lower part of the shed, closest to the foundation. Many people tend to leave it wide open simply because it is easier, but what you may not realise is that leaving it wide open is leaving it open to wildlife. Unless you want a family of rodents living beneath your shed, make sure you trim it off.

The interior of your shed or garage is just as important as the exterior as you are undoubtedly going to find. The first thing you need to realise is that the garage does not have to look ugly simply because it is an outdoor structure. As a matter of fact, the interior of your garage can actually look quite nice if you really want it to. This does not mean you have to lay carpets of course, but you can paint the walls and install decent shelving units to store your items. In addition to that, you might think about installing an overhead storage unit to serve as a space for smaller items. Access to this overhead unit could come in the form of an extendable ladder or even a set of stairs leading up to an attic.

The final piece of advice is to at least make the rafters invisible. Oftentimes a garage ceiling can look very unappealing so you should either place boards over it, or turn it into a storage space as we suggested in the previous paragraph. Ultimately it's up to you but your choices can make a huge difference.

Giving your garage a makeover both inside and out shouldn't be difficult so long as you a have the right tools, the right materials and a good idea of what you want to do. Start today and see what you can build by tomorrow.
