How to Plant Sedge Grass

    • 1). Choose a sunny area to plant sedge, although most varieties will also tolerate some partial shade. Dig a hole that is two to three times as wide and 1 ½ times as deep as the sedge's current container. Space multiple sedges approximately 18 to 24 inches apart.

    • 2). Incorporate 5 or 6 inches of compost to the dug-out soil. Fill the hole back in so it is just as deep as the soil the sedge is currently planted in.

    • 3). Take the sedge out of the container. Slice several vertical cuts down the sides of the soil if the roots are growing in circles around the soil. Then, place the sedge in the center of the hole so that it is planted just as deep as it was before.

    • 4). Fill the hole around your sedge until it is halfway full with the amended soil. Water it with 1 inch of water. Then, backfill the hole the rest of the way, tamping it down as you go along. Water the sedge again with 1 inch of water.
