How Should I Get Rid of Appliances?
- 1). Call your local public works department and ask about the proper action to getting rid of appliances in your area. You may be instructed to take the appliance to a nearby dump or have it picked up at your home for a nominal fee.
- 2). Inquire at home improvement stores if they will take your old appliance if you purchase a new one. Some stores may also offer programs to come to pick up your appliance or have you drop it off for a fee to discard the item.
- 3). Talk to friends and family and see if they need a working but older appliance. First-time homeowners may need used appliances if their home does not come with them.
- 4). Place a for-sale ad. If the appliances work and are in good condition, sell them for a small fee. You get rid of the appliance and also make money. Look online to place free ads in your area. Two examples are The PennySaver and Craigslist.
