Quick Tips For a Teething Baby

103 10
Teething can be very painful for a baby.
It is important to make them as comfortable as possible.
My daughter is 9 months old and she currently has 4 teeth.
She began teething at 5 1/2 months.
Her first tooth broke through two and a half weeks after.
So until that tooth broke through her gums we tried to make as comfortable as possible.
Being a mom I have learned a lot about teething and have a few tips that helped me out some.
Hopefully they will help you out too.
1-Medication - First, I want to tell you about baby teething medicines that are said to numb the baby's gums.
They claim to help the baby feel more comfortable.
However, upon consulting our pediatrician about using them, he recommended strongly not to.
He said that using a numbing device on the baby's gums can cause the gag reflex to become numb.
When something is caught in the baby's throat, it will automatically cause the baby to gag often times causing the food or object to come up.
Without having the gag reflex, your baby will easily choke.
Our pediatrician recommended that if our daughter was in pain to give her Tylenol.
Remember to always to consult your pediatrician before giving your child any medications.
2-Teething Devices- We tried nearly every teething toy out there.
From toys that are rubbery like, to the ones you put in the refrigerator, to the vibrating ones.
After trying most teething toys I must say from experience that the one that helped my daughter out the most was a vibrating teether.
It is made by First Years and is in the shape of a star.
The baby has complete control of the vibration.
The vibration occurs when the baby bites down on the teether which then causes the teether to massage the baby's gums giving the baby relief.
You can also but a cold rag in the freezer and then give them that to bite on.
The coldness helps them a lot.
3-Comfort- Do you remember when you were sick or hurt as a child? What was it that comforted you or helped you feel better? All you wanted was your mom or dad to hold you and tell you its ok.
You will notice that if your baby is in pain and crying that if you hold them and love them and try and calm them it will make them feel better.
They will eventually calm down and stop crying.
A lot of people look for remedies that consist of medication.
However, sometimes a little bit of love can be the best dose of medicine.
Those are just a few things that have helped our daughter through teething.
She now has 4 teeth and is always smiling.
Hopefully this insight to teething has helped you out.
Being a parent you will be able to tell what it is your baby is feeling and what it is that he or she needs.
Those were just a few tips to help you in fulfilling your baby's needs.
