Picture Recovery From a Hard Drive
- 1). Install NTFS Undelete (see Resources). Open NTFS Undelete and select the "Search" tab. Enter the name of the file you want to recover into the "Search" text box. Choose the hard drive you want NTFS Undelete to scan and click "Search." Select the file you want to recover when the search completes and specify where you want it copied. Click "Recover" to restore the deleted file.
- 2). Start Recuva and click "Next" in the "Welcome to the Recuva Windows" that automatically loads when you open the program (see Resources). Select the file type for the image file you want to recover from the "File Type" menu. (Click "I'm not sure" if you do not know the file type for the deleted file.) Click "Start" to scan your computer. Select the file you want to recover from the results window and click "Recover" to restore it. Select a location on your computer where you want Recuva to copy the file.
- 3). Download Restoration (see Resources). Extract the Restoration program files from the compressed ZIP file downloaded from the developer's website. Click "Restoration.exe" to run the program. Type the name of the file you want to recover into the "All or part of the file" text box. Click "Search deleted files." Once Restoration finds the file, select it and click "Restore by Copying." Select a location on your computer where you want the file copied.
