How to Install & Enable a Network Adapter Card
- 1). Shut off your computer and unplug it from the power source. Take the case cover off to gain access to the inside of the computer tower; this may require removal of screws or thumbscrews, or the cover may simply lift off.
- 2). Look for a long, thin slot on the lower left corner of the motherboard; this is a PCI or PCI-E slot you will use to install your network adapter card.
- 3). Unscrew the slot cover at the back of the case. Put this aside.
- 4). Position the network adapter card by aligning the back end of the network interface slots with the hole you opened by removing the cover. Press the network adapter card into place. Secure the network adapter card by screwing it into place with the mounting assembly. Put the case cover back on. Connect the network card to your modem or router.
- 5). Plug your computer in and turn it on. Insert the manufacturer's installation disk and install the drivers by waiting for the CD to auto-run and clicking "Next" when prompted. Windows will pick up the network adapter card automatically and finish the driver installation.
