How to Plan a Very Extravagant Children's Party

    • 1). Decide on how much you are willing to spend. Understand that some of the most exciting and unusual features can also be very pricey, so be prepared. Know that some of the higher-end parties can start at a $1,000 and go on up to $100,000 or more, depending on the details.

    • 2). Consider hosting a zoo in your backyard. There are companies that will bring child-friendly animals to your home and let children pet them. Some also offer pony rides. These are great ways to entertain young guests. You can also follow through on the animal theme in your decorations, cake, snack choices and party bag gifts. Just keep in mind that any petting zoo company you use must have proof of up-to-date liability insurance, just in case of accidents. They are also required to have USDA certification. Finally, most companies will request that you don't serve food while the animals are being handled. These are important details to make sure your party runs smoothly and safely.

    • 3). Bring a live performance into your home. You can hire a local theater troupe to put on one of the well-known productions for your guests. Make popcorn and bags of candy for the young audience. Or, rent out a theater, complete with stage and built-in seats, so you capture the complete Broadway ambiance.

    • 4). Host your own screening of a popular movie by renting or buying a large movie screen and projector and a reel of the film you want. Some party rental companies can provide these, or might be able to at least direct you to where you can find such items. Set up an outdoor show in your yard (or another large outdoor area) and invite guests to come and sit on the lawn. Provide blankets or chairs and also lots of snack foods.

    • 5). Rent out an art or science museum or a sports arena for the evening. Expect prices to start at around $1,000 for a museum and go on to about $10,000 for a major sports venue such as Madison Square Garden. While these settings can be on the pricey side, they are also a great way to make your event extra special. Just be sure to ask the facility if they will allow you to hire a caterer to bring in food and decorations and plan accordingly.

    • 6). Splurge on a sleep-over at FAO Schwarz in New York City for your child and a few of his or her closest friends. This very special event starts at $25,000 and goes up from there (you can also hire an entertainer to amuse your guests) but for the money, this is sure to be a night your youngster will never forget. (To find out more, call the New York store.)

    • 7). Commission an over-the-top cake from a fancy bakery. Some places will custom make a three-dimensional cake that is a large model of a castle, game board or even of your own child. With all of the bells and whistles, you can spend a few thousand dollars on this edible creation. Just be sure to take lots of pictures before you cut it!
