Using Color to Decorate a Room

Adding the finishing touches to your living room is like putting the finishing touches on an outfit.
  The perfect belt, right color shoes, and jewelry accessories can put the special touch to your look.
  So can the right color accessories in your living room.
  But once the basics of your room are in place, how do you go about trying to pull a room together, without costing a fortune? How to Start The first item to look at is your needs.
  Start with the basic color and style of your living room, then evaluate the type of accessories the room needs.
 Does the room need lamps or some other type of lighting?  What other type of accessories might work - candle holders or vases?  Where are the accessories to be placed?  Do you have children that you need to be careful of where the accessories are placed?  What is your budget? Once you have a general idea of what your room needs, all you need to do is look at the main colors in your room, and work within those colors.
Working with Color This is one of the easiest ways to accessories.
  Take a look at your main colors in your living room.
  For example, my main colors are cream, burgundy red, and pistachio green.
  The trick is to not go overboard on any one color, so the room will have balance.
  My lamps have shades of burgundy and green in the base, but the lampshade is a shade of tan, which compliments my cream and brown.
Curtains can also do wonders for a room.
  I like simple, elegant curtains, such as a swags and valances.
  Choose solid colors; patterns tend to be too busy.
  My curtains are champagne with a touch of burgundy in the swag.
  The simpler the curtain, the more you can work with other accessories in a room.
  Colors should compliment your room, not overpower it.
Accessorizing Pillows, rugs, and throws are an easy way to make a room look pulled together.
  My couches are both cream.
I use burgundy and green pillows to compliment them.
  For the burgundy recliner, I use a striped pillow, which not only contains the burgundy, cream, and green, but also some shades of tan and brown.
  On the floor I have a fairly good size rug that contains all of the colors in my room, but also includes the colors tan and brown to compliment my lampshade.
  On my couch, I also have a burgundy throw, For accessories, choose vases and candle holders that compliment your colors.
  Do not try to add a blue vase to a room if it is not in your color scheme.
  Work with the colors that you have, and your room will look pulled together.
These are just a few ideas on how to take your main colors, and work within them to pull a room together.
  By adding complimentary colors with accessories, it will balance your room out, and give it a more comfortable feel.
  Your living room will become a room that you love.
