How Does Deer Netting Work?
- Rita Massingham Hart, who wrote the book on "Deerproofing Your Yard and Garden" in 2005, endorses draping the lightweight, flexible netting, nearly invisible to you, over single plants or entire beds.
- Deer can jump either high or far, but not both. Dr. Leonard Perry, University of Vermont Extension Professor of Plant and Soil Science, says commercial-grade netting is an inexpensive fence material so long as you don't have too many deer or too big an area. He recommends tipping any fence outward at a 45-degree angle.
- Hart cautions that deer will work their heads under or through a loose barrier and recommends tying the netting to stout stakes and securing where the two ends meet.
