Fagor Torre 24" 11 cu. ft. Energy Star Refrigerator

106 299

Style & Design:

Fagor's latest refrigerator - the Torre™ offers the perfect appliance solution for space-limited kitchens, the office staff room, ultimate man cave or the home theater funspace, without sacrificing efficiency, style and enhanced refrigeration controls. With a depth of 24" this squarish and flat-faced European-inspired refrigerator (24" wide) can easily integrate flush with cabinets to give any kitchen/dining/snacking corner a professional sleek and serious look and feel.

And with a bottom freezer design, what you use most often is conveniently easy-to-reach.

With advanced refrigerator features, the slim Torre lacks for nothing, which is most unusual in a narrow fridge. Its features are not bargain basement, so don't expect the price to be either. The Fagor Torre is available in either stainless steel finish FFJA4845X (MSRP $1999) or black FFJA4845B (MSRP $1799). More detail from the manufacturer.

Fully Equipped to Handle Moisture:

While most high-end refrigerators have enhanced humidity controls, the Torre seems to go beyond the average with a unique 'No Frost' technology and LCD controls that help to maintain a constant temperature and humidity, and alerting you if the unit strays from those settings. And when the moisture inside a refrigerator is kept in check, foods last longer, which means that these humidity controls can help you save money, by reducing food spoilage.

Designed to Save Energy:

Energy Star rated and with a low estimated annual energy use of 391 kWh or roughly $42 according to the EnergyGuide label, upgrading to this smaller, slim but full-featured refrigerator should save you money in energy use.

Other features can also save energy, such as the open door alarm and your ability to monitor more closely if interior temperatures go off course.

Anti-Bacterial Interior:

Since this is such a rare find, I thought I'd list this feature by itself. You read that right, this refrigerator has a coat of silver ion compound applied to its interior, so the inside is treated to resist the growth of bacteria. Silver ion technology has been used in some small appliances the last few years, so why should we be surprised that it has surfaced in the large kitchen appliance sector. That's a great feature to have, since it's a known fact that there's a lot of bacteria in the average refrigerator interior.

Other Notable Features:

With an anti-fingerprint stainless finish, the exterior should be easier to keep clean. Interior storage includes a Multi Fresh and Double Fresh compartments that can be individually temperature/humidity controlled for different food types. There are anti-spill glass shelves and the doors are reversible.

Capacity, Constraints & Other Considerations:

With a smaller refrigerator design, there's of course less capacity - a total of 11 cu. ft, of which 9 cu. ft. is for refrigerated food storage. But small does have its plus side - there's usually less food spoilage because you can't possibly buy and store too much food. The freezer is bottom styled and while the whole compartment does not roll out as some do, the three drawers can pull out for easy retrieval.

This refrigerator is 79" tall, so you should ensure it meets any height clearances if there are upper cabinets in that space. And last, the refrigerator handle is positioned low on the front of the unit - that might take some getting used to. As with any large appliance, you should review installation guidelines before buying.

Just so there's no confusion, note that Fagor also makes another 24" Stainless Steel Refrigerator Model 3FCA-68NFX that lacks some of the Torre's features, but has a slightly larger overall capacity of 13 cu. ft.

Overall, the new Fagor Torre looks good, gives you more control over humidity and temperatures, and helps to keep bacteria down within its confines. And it's sized just right for small spaces, yet has the style and features of bigger models.
