Designer Eyeglasses Trends for 2010

Eyeglasses aren't what they used to be: ugly! Styles and designs have changed so rapidly in recent years that the glasses of ten years ago almost seem alien now. Remember the pink tortoise shell glasses of the late 1980's and 90's? Thank God, those are gone.

Glasses aren't just used for practical purposes anymore. Now they are a much sought after fashion accessory. Many people wear non-prescription glasses to make themselves appear smarter. Not so long ago the rule of thumb was that gold frames go with every outfit in your closet. Those who wear glasses have branched out of gold and have, thankfully, gained the guts to go for color.

Many opticians give discounts to customers who order two pairs of glasses with the idea that one pairs is for work and home while another pair is for going out. Women, in particular, choose more than one pair of glasses to accessories their wardrobes. For office and home wear many choose to go with a blue or black sleek metal frame. For those a little braver with colors, frames with floral or animal prints or bright colors like red, pink, bright blue, green and yellow are popular. Some even wear glasses with embellishments, like hello kitty or butterflies to the office, though this can look rather childish. Metal frames with filigree work and purple metallic frames are a safe bet and are also very popular. When it's time to party the more adventurous frames bedecked in stones and glitter comes out to play. Whatever your preference, there's something trending now that can fit your needs.

Designer eyeglasses offer rimless, semi-rimless or full rim frames for 2010. When rimless glasses are combined with anti-reflective lenses the wearer looks almost as if they aren't wearing any glasses at all. Both men and women can wear this style. Titanium rims are also coming into style in a big way because of the metal's light weight, durability and non-corrosive properties.

Reading glasses are using plastic much more this year and are trending towards thicker frames. These are probably the most popular selection with the younger crowd. Many college students wear this style of glasses from Italy to Australia to Brazil to America. This trend isn't for everyone though. Those with very narrow set eyes should go for lighter weight frames in very light colors.
