How to Make a Cheering Costume
- 1). Lay the T-shirt on a flat surface. Use a fabric marker in your favorite team's color to draw a large letter or symbol on the front of the shirt. Choose the first letter of your team or the letter "V," for "varsity." Or, select a simple symbol, such as a star.
- 2). Use the same fabric marker to create a striped border on the skirt. Lay the skirt flat and draw a straight, horizontal line 1 inch from the bottom edge. Color in the area between the line and the bottom edge of the skirt. Flip the skirt over and repeat the striped border on the back side.

Create a pair of cheerleader's pom poms with plastic shopping bags. Gather six bags together by the handles. Place a twist tie just under the handles and wrap it tightly to secure the group of bags together. Repeat to create a second pom pom. Use scissors to create a fringe of thin, vertical strips on each pom pom, approximately 1/2 inch wide. Leave 1/2 inch margin of uncut bag between the fringe and the twist-tie. - 4). Create handles for each pom pom by wrapping double-sided tape around the group of shopping bag handles, as well as the twist tie. Use hair ribbons to fully cover the double-sided tape in your team's color.
- 5). Complete the cheering costume with accessories that are color-coordinated to match your chosen team's colors. Tie your hair up into a ponytail or pigtails with ribbons. Use face paint to draw a star or "V" on each cheek. Wear athletic socks and sneakers with the costume.
