A junior church choir allows young believers a chance to share their faith with others. Church choirs often sing during services or perform on special occasions such as holidays. Select age-appropriate music and consult with church officials before making plans for the choir.

    Summer Spectacular

    • While youngsters are out of school for the summer season, occupy their time by creating a summer spectacular. Many churches offer vacation Bible school for their young parishioners. Offering the option of being in the junior church choir instead will appeal to many of the young believers. Inquire with the church leaders about performing at an end-of-summer picnic or party. Plan whimsical songs about summer that fall within the guidelines of church doctrine. Songs such as "Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer" by Nat King Cole, "Summer Song" by Chad and Jeremy and "In the Good Old Summer Time" by Rogers and Hammerstein fit a summer vacation theme while presenting an appropriate message. Incorporate costumes for an added touch or ask the children to dress alike for the performance.

    Volunteer Entertainment

    • In most communities there are senior citizen centers and nursing home facilities. Many of these hold Sunday church services on the premises to allow those who are not ambulatory to attend. Volunteer a junior church choir to perform. The choir might assist in the singing of the opening and closing hymnals or perform a special musical selection before or after the sermon for the day. After the services, the junior choir might stroll the hallways singing religious songs or stop in rooms of those who are bedridden to entertain. Plan visits and performances during the holiday seasons as well as regular Sundays. Take song requests from those living in the residences for future visits.

    A Kid's Christmas

    • Most churches celebrate with recreations of the night of Jesus' birth including a performance or two by the choir. Incorporate the junior church choir into the celebration with a performance. Leave the serious songs to the adult choir and choose whimsical songs of the season. "Holly Jolly Christmas" by Burl Ives and "Silver Bells" by Ray Evans are secular songs that capture the feel of the day in a positive light. Consult with church officials to schedule a time for the performance apart from the traditional celebration.
