How to Grow Your Own Sprouts

103 262
Did you know that sprouts continue to grow up until the moment that they are digested? They are unlike fruits and vegetables, which stop growing when they are picked from the ground or plant.
That means that sprouts truly are a living food and an excellent source of nutrients and minerals.
They are also an important source of beneficial enzymes, which aid the body in digestion as well as mineral and nutrient absorption.
If you are thinking about growing sprouts, then you should know that the most nutritious and also easy to grow sprouts are clover, radish, mustard, fenugreek, and sunflower.
Be sure to use organic seeds because they haven't been treated with any chemicals.
Many people use the jar sprouting method because it's easy and can be done with tools that you already have around the house.
Make sure you start off with a glass container, not plastic or metal.
Choosing glass is easiest because you can watch your sprouts and monitor the growth.
You will also need a sprouting lid to cover the jar.
You can easily find these at any health food store.
First you need to put your seeds into the glass jar.
The seeds should cover the bottom of the jar completely.
Next you should fill the jar with enough water to cover them by about one inch.
Let the seeds soak for about 6 hours then cover the jar with the sprouting lid and turn it upside down to drain the water.
Place the jar in an area of your home that gets plenty of light and where the temperature stays between 69 and 71 degrees.
Your seeds should begin to sprout in just a few days.
Once the sprouts start growing you should rinse them with lukewarm water once per day to prevent mold from growing on them.
When your sprouts are long enough, you can rinse them and eat them.
They can also be stored in your refrigerator for about one week.
