How to Repair LCD Televisions
- 1). Adjust the picture format ratio on your cable box if black bars appear on the sides of broadcast images. This problem usually effects wide screen LCD sets. Most TV shows are transmitted in a standard definition picture ratio of 4:3. Wide screen televisions use a wider picture ratio of 16:9, causing the black borders to appear. Push the "Menu" button on the cable box remote to change the picture ratio. Now select "Picture Settings" from the onscreen display and select "16:9" from the Aspect Ratio menu.
- 2). Switch off battery-operated or electrical devices that are located near your LCD TV. Vacuum cleaners and fluorescent bulbs in particular can cause picture and sound interference. Devices that use magnetic energy, such as hi-fi speakers, can also cause distortion. Move these devices away from your LCD set or switch them off to prevent picture interference.
- 3). Turn off your LCD TV if dead pixels are visible onscreen. Dead pixels are fixed color squares that don't change with displayed images. This problem can afflict Plasma and LCD sets. Switch off your LCD television and press a clean, damp cloth to the area where a dead pixel was visible. Hold the cloth in place for about fifteen seconds before turning the set back on. Purchase pixel repair software from the Internet if this method fails to solve the problem.
- 4). Push the "Menu" button on your LCD remote control if broadcast pictures are lacking in definition or have weak color balance. Select "Picture Settings" from the onscreen menu and adjust sharpness, color and brightness settings using the up and down arrows on your remote control (these keys are labeled + and - on some remote controls). Amending each of these settings can refine image and color quality.
