How to Prevent YouTube Hackers

104 17

    Setting Your Password

    • Your YouTube password could be too easy to guess, making you a target for potential hackers. Since your YouTube account may be linked to your Google account, you'll need to change your Google account password to make your YouTube account more secure. If your YouTube account is separate from your Google account, you can change your password by signing into YouTube, then clicking "My Account," then "Settings" and "Change Password."

    Choosing a Password

    • The right type of password deters hackers, since it's virtually impossible to guess. Generic passwords, such as your first name, a chronological sequence of numbers or even the word "password," make it easy to hack your account and take control of your content. Instead, choose a password that contains letters, numbers and symbols in a random order. Avoid using your birthday or other readily accessible information and your password will secure your account properly.

    Changing Your Password Frequently

    • Even when you have a difficult to guess password, clever hackers can use personal information and common phrases to try and guess your password. By changing your YouTube password once a month, you'll be able to keep those hackers guessing while keeping your account secure.

    YouTube Privacy Settings

    • Changing your account privacy settings can also help to deter hackers and make you less visible as a target. Certain information on your profile is made automatically public by default. By signing into your account, then clicking "My Account," then "Settings" and "Privacy," you can scroll down to the bottom of your privacy settings and select what is and isn't visible through your profile. By unchecking boxes and making yourself less visible on YouTube, you'll make yourself less of a target for hackers who find user names and information online.
