How to Calculate AC Wattage

104 14
    • 1). Find the voltage and amperage on the device. Most devices will have these two items listed on a tag that is usually found on the device’s power chord. You will want to know the input voltage and amperage, which is what nearly all devices list. If your device lists the output voltage and amperage, you will need to consult the instruction manual or guide for the proper values.

    • 2). Multiply the amperage and the voltage to determine the wattage. For instance, if the device generates 6 volts and 110 amps, you need 660 watts to power it.

    • 3). Repeat steps one and two for each device you will power. Wattage is cumulative so if you are planning to run more than one device off of a power source, you need to calculate the wattage for each device and add them together to ensure you are generating enough power.
