How to Make Candy Houses With a Cardboard Frame
- 1). Mix corn syrup, sugar and butter in a saucepan. Cook and stir until the butter is completely melted and pour into a mixing bowl. Combine with some sugar and let it chill for about 1 hour. This is the gingerbread mixture.
- 2). Pour out the gingerbread dough and roll it into 1/8 thickness. Bake the mixture at 350 degrees for about 15 minutes. Let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes and remove it from the pan.
- 3). Create the icing by mixing butter and shortening in a large bowl. Mix in some water and vanilla and beat until smooth. Mix in some sugar.
- 4). Lay down some cardboard to act as a base for the house. Place some icing in a square or rectangle shape in whatever size you want the house to be. Place some more cardboard squares along the icing and wait for them to settle. Put icing along the top edge of the cardboard frame, acting as glue. Place another cardboard square on top and wait for it to dry.
- 5). Lather the sides and top of the cardboard in icing. Cut gingerbread into corresponding shapes and lay them on the sides of the house frame. Wait for them to dry.
- 6). Create a roof by cutting out two triangles from the cardboard and place them along the front and back of the house frame. Secure them in place with the icing. Place two more cardboard frames at right angles, forming a roof. Use the icing to hold them in place. Lather the roof in icing and attach some gingerbread.
- 7). Decorate the house with icing and candy. Make a door, windows and other decorations. Peppermints, M&Ms, candycanes, gumdrops and sugar candies make great decorations. Use the extra icing to secure them in place on the house. Make the house as elaborate and decorative as you like.
