How to Replace the Brakes on a Saturn Sl1
- 1). Park the car on a level, flat surface and set the parking brake.
- 2). Use the tire iron to loosen the lug nuts on both front tires.
- 3). Place the floor jack under the front end of the car and lift it by the frame cross-member.
- 4). Slide jack stands under the A-frame (front suspension) next to each wheel.
- 5). Lower the car onto the jack stands.
- 6). Remove the lug nuts and then the front tires.
- 1). Remove the bolts on the back of the disc brake assembly using the ratchet and socket set.
- 2). Pull the brake assembly straight off the brake rotor.
- 3). Use the handle of the ratchet to knock the brake pads out of the brake assembly.
- 4). Slide the new brake pads into the position held by the old brake pads.
- 5). Replace the brake assembly over the brake rotor, then insert the bolts to hold it in place and tighten them as much as possible using the ratchet and socket set.
- 1). Repeat the changing process for the other side of the SL1.
- 2). Set the tires on the axle hubs and evenly screw on the lug nuts until the tires are fully and squarely seated.
- 3). Jack up the front of the car and remove the jack stands.
- 4). Lower the car to the ground.
- 5). Use the tire iron to tighten the lug nuts on all tires of the car.
