Combine 1 tsp. of 3 percent hydrogen peroxide and 1/4 tsp. of cream of tartar in a bowl.

    • 2). Dip an old toothbrush in the peroxide solution and scrub the tomato soup-stained plastic lid. Coat the stains with the peroxide solution and allow it to sit for a few minutes. Rinse the lid with water to remove the peroxide and cream of tartar paste.

    • 3). Dampen a sponge with white vinegar then sprinkle baking soda onto the sponge. Scrub any tomato soup stain that remains with the vinegar and baking soda mixture. Both are effective stain removers and the mild abrasiveness of baking soda helps remove stubborn tomato stains.

    • 4). Rinse the plastic lid with water. Dry with a clean kitchen towel.
